Hello your host Joe Cox here.
I became interested in genealogy I guess ever since I was a child when I used to sit around and listen to stories that my great grandmother would tell me about her family as we played cards after supper until late in the evening. I guess then it was called gossip since most of the relatives were living
When my great grandmother passed I was in college and sowing my youthful oats. It wasn't until after my child Hattie was born that I began searching for my family's roots. This sparked me to become acquainted with the term genealogy.
During this time the web was solidifying into its own entity and more and more people were becoming connected. I have been online even in the early eighties when the web was in it's infancy with the general public and mainly accessible only by those self proclaimed nerds that had university accounts. Back then the web was textual based. Not all these pretty pictures and formats that you see nowadays.
Anyhow, this brings me to the present. Technology has advanced far enough to where it is easy for anyone to build a web site and present information (for free) to the public. Add to this easy and free accessibility to the web and you have a beautiful marriage of the web and genealogy.
The internet has opened the floodgate to doing genealogical research. Instead of me having to spend all my time and money on doing research, distant cousins from around the world can now come together and share information with each other.
I am married to Julie Mullis and have two beautiful children Hattie Cox and Bryson Cox. They are the reason I have begun this addiction with genealogy. I'm sure some think it morbid that we have family excursions to cemetery's looking for dead ancestors. We even had some interesting conversation with live family members who happened to be at a cemetery the same time we were. Oh well at least it's a family activity
I would like to welcome everyone to this site which has been around for 4 years in one form or another. It wasn't until this year that I became acquainted with software called Joomla and software called The Next Generation in which I was able to merge genealogy with an organized way to manage content. Technology is truly wonderful.
Please participate and interact to create a sense of community. If you have any questions on anything the best way to ask me is on these discussion forums. As I do not get to my computer as often as I like their may be someone else that can answer your question before I do.
The best way to learn to use this site is to play around with it. I really like the community component in which we can connect with other family members and friends and send personal messages to each other. Like I said play around with the site there is a lot to it underneath the surface.
My goal is for everyone to share with each other. When you read my soapbox discourse you will see that I am big on giving credit to sources. Remember if you contribute something make sure you give your source where the information came from.
Thanks and I hope we can all help each other in our Mullis Mélange quest.
Sincerely,
Joe Cox
