Hello to the List!

I recently contacted Joe, after a conversation with another family connection. He was very kind to respond in a timely fashion. His mother in law's Grandmother, was Annie Laura Taylor, who is the sister of my Grandmother, Lily Mae Taylor.
Their mother was Mattie Blitch. I have been researching the Blitch and Taylor families, and hopefully will be able to provide a link which is further back in time.

For anyone new to the list, I can tell you that Joe has a great site and is very helpful in connecting family members. I would hope that others would contribute to the research and share information, and pictures, as he has done. Genealogy is a community effort, and we all should give, as well as take information, so kindly provided!

Hi Caryn

oops... I deleted my original message by mistake and now I am posting it again with your response to me just so I have some dialogue on thes forums

As we had discussed earlier about the possibility of Mattie blitch's family being in politics I had found information at this link http://politicalgraveyard.com/families/2638.html on the Political Graveyard website which list Blitch members from Georgia and was wondering if there was a connection.

Joe

From Caryn:

Hi Joe!

Thank you for the message about the political family of Blitches. I was aware of them and have thought about contacting them.

Had some time to go to the local Mormon Library last week and also to look on Heritage Quest thru my local library connection.

There are two possibilites for the father of Mattie Blitch. The most likely in my opinion, is Daniel Blitch. The 1870 Census for Appling County shows a Martha E. Blitch, age 3. This would match the age of our Mattie. Also in the same household is a brother, Willie D. age 5 and another brother, Charles, age 1.Mattie Blitch named one of her children Willliam D. Daniel Blitch notes his birthplace as Fl. and Loucia (Lucy Ann) notes hers as GA. On every census, Mattie notes her father as being born in FL. and her mother in GA.

The other possiblility is a Mattie Blitch on the FL. State Census of 1885. The head of the house is a FW Blitch. Mattie is 12 years old. This would put her birth around 1873, which is late for the Mattie I am trying to find.

Daniel Blitch in the 1870 Census is living next door to Obediah Blitch and the next household is Solomon Blitch. All of these are known sons of Benjamin Blitch, a minister who moved between GA. and FL. Some of the children were born in FL. and some in GA. Laura mentioned that Mattie's father was a minister. From what I have seen on various sites, the above three brothers were also ministers in addition to being farmers. I will try to constact some of the sites and post a mesage to see what I might find.
