LEESBURG

PARKING FEES TO START JAN. 2

After six months of providing free parking at the new municipal parking garage in the center of Leesburg, the town will begin charging a parking fee Jan. 2.

The new charges for parking in the four-level, 387-space garage will be 50 cents an hour, up to a daily maximum of $4.

Monthly parking permits are now available from the Finance Department, located in the town's Municipal Center, for $40 a month. Permit holders will be assigned a numbered space on the lower level of the garage.

Leesburg is also starting up a "Park and Shop" validation program, where local businesses can offer free parking to customers and clients. A book of 100 validation stamps will cost businesses $25, but the first book will be given out free. Each stamp is worth one hour of free parking.

TOWN PLAN COMMITTEE NAMED

Before breaking for the holidays, the Leesburg Town Council named 13 town residents, business leaders and town officials to the Town Plan Amendment Citizens Advisory Committee.

The committee will be charged with reviewing Leesburg's four-year-old Comprehensive Plan and submitting a list of recommendations to the council. State law requires that Leesburg review the plan, which guides development in the town, every five years.

The committee members are Barbara Anderson, Stephen Axeman, Mike Banzhaf, Karen Jewell, Chuck Jones, Kim Jordan, Eric Mullis, Joseph Paciulli and Rocky Westfall. Council member William Webb and Planning Commissioner Robert Atland also will serve on the committee.
