PARKER CITY -- This winter, the holiday shopping season will include another option for local residents as Family Dollar plans to open a store here in November.

The 8,800-square-foot store is under construction at 122 W. Jackson St., along Ind. 32 in Parker City. It's expected to open before Thanksgiving, a company spokesman said.

"The target date is mid-November of this year -- hopefully, cross our fingers, in time for the holiday season," said Josh Braverman, public relations manager from the company's headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.

The metal building with its stone front is owned by The Peniel Group of Terre Haute, and Steve Mullis, a construction manager for the Terre Haute developer, said construction began in June.

Braverman said the store will feature a sales floor of 7,744 square feet and include a general inventory that will include apparel, housewares, bath items and food.

"We try to locate our stores in neighborhoods so we are convenient. We do provide convenience. That really is our mission (so customers can) run in, pick up a gallon of milk or a pack of diapers."

The store likely will employ 5-7 workers -- a full-time store manager and assistant manager, and then others who will work a combination of full- and part-time shifts. Interested workers can submit applications online at www.familydollar.com.
