Lake Wylie NC United States Elam James Mullis, Sr. 'Jim' LAKE WYLIE -- Mr. Mullis was promoted to glory on August 6, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was recently retired from Giant Penny of Charlotte, NC, where he was the market meat cutter for many, many years. Mr. Mullis was a great light of hope and love for all that knew him. He had a great love for horses and the outdoors, and a great passion for helping people and always had a story to tell. A celebration of his life will be held in the Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Thursday, with Reverend Steve Bass of Sunset Road Baptist Church and Evelyn Terry officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home, 4601 Freedom Drive. Surviving family members are his loving wife of 50 years, Diann Mullis; the oldest son, Elam 'Jimmy' James Mullis, Jr. and Kathi of Marion, SC; Joseph Bruce Mullis and Lois of Lake Wylie, SC; Angela Mullis Jackson and Larry of Lake Wylie, SC; along with six grandchildren, Elam Mullis, III, Justin Mullis, Joseph Bruce Mullis, Jr., Tabatha Mullis Hovis, Joshua and Adam Duston; four great grandchildren, Makenna Mullis, Hunter Mullis, Natalie Mullis and Bradley Hovis. Additional survivors are mother-in-law, Rosie V. Collins; brother, C. G. Mullis; sisters, Margie Helms, Betty Watkins, and Peggy Hudson; and many, many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Zack Atkinson, Bud Fox, Kurt Hess, Mark Shaffner, Kenny Rhyne, and Austin Buie. Honorary pallbearers are Lonnie 'G-man' Gill and Josh Chavis. At the entrance of Sharon Memorial Park there will be horsemen. Joe Barbee will be on a horse named 'Harley', Eddie Geouge will be on a horse named 'Country' and the leader of the pack will be Daddy's horse, named 'Crosby'. Daddy, I hope you know how proud I am to carry on your name. I have never been as proud as I am today. I love you with all my heart and soul, and I hope you will always know that. I made you a promise about Mom, Bruce and Angie, and I will never falter from it. Because of you, I am a better man. Your shoes are unfillable and my heart is unhealable. I will miss you all the days of my life until we meet in Heaven. I love you, daddy.
