Mullis came to Tyrone from the Fulton County Marshall's Office in August, 1996. Following the retirement of Chief Johnny Hay in November, 2006, Mullis was appointed as the interim chief until March, 2007 when the permanent job was awarded to him by the Town Council.
"I resigned for personal reasons," he said earlier this week. "It is time for a career change." "I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you [Amos] as my supervisor as well as to my staff in the police department," he wrote. "I have enjoyed working with all of you and am grateful for the professional and personal development opportunities I was given over the years."
Wrote Mullis, "This will give me four full weeks to
bring both you and my department up-to-speed on all operations and
outstanding issues."
