Ralph A. Mullis, 70, 265 Short Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

    Mr. Mullis was born on September 24, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Ferdinand, Ind., in 1948. He moved to Elizabethton in 1980. He worked with DMI Telephone Company and retired as manager of the Elizabethton Golf Course Grill.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Emma Weyer Mullis, and a brother, William R. Mullis.

    Survivors include his wife. Patsy Austin Mullis, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark W. and Vickie Mullis, Safety Harbor, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacie J. and Issiah Pappas, Belleair Bluffs, Fla.; a step-son, William E. Miller, Elizabethton; a brother, Clarence J. Mullis, Ferdinand, Ind.; four grandchildren, Isaac and Melanie Mullis, Safety Harbor, Fla., and Katherine and Michael Pappas, Belleair Bluffs, Fla.; three step-grandchildren, Caitlin, Paige and Hunter Miller, St. Louis, Mo.; an uncle, George Mullis of Iowa; several nieces and nephews; a special great-niece, Becky Townsend, Johnson City; a brother-in-law, Charles Austin, Elizabethton; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Harrell, Elizabethton, and Irene Mullis of Indiana.

    Funeral services for Mr. Mullis will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Milton Mahers, minister, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, in the Centerview Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, will be Eddie Miller, Ron Harrell, Steve Townsend, Gary Tucker, Bill Austin and Chris Arnett. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at 251 Short Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, at anytime. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
