 Mr. Mullis, 83, of Charlotte passed away on December 19, 2004 at Carolinas Medical Center with his loving and devoted wife and son by his side. He was born on August 14, 1921 in Charlotte to Sam Mack, Sr. and Annabelle Crowell Mullis.

He was a World War II veteran, who served during the D-Day invasion. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His grandson Christopher said that his Papa was Awesome, and that he was!

He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Mack Mullis in 2003. Mr. Mullis is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Jean of the home, one son Larry Michael Mullis of Charlotte, a daughter-in-law, Lory Mullis of Minneapolis, MN, three sisters, Joan Byrd, of Concord, Angie Key and Linda Keeter, both of Charlotte, and two grandchildren, Zachary Mack Mullis and Christopher Michael Mullis.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sam M. Mullis, Jr. will be held from the graveside at Elmwood Cemetery at 10:00 in the morning on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 with the Reverend Charles Foushee officiating.

The family would like to thank Drs. George Raad, Joel Bruce and William Roberts and their staffs for the care and concern shown to Sam over the past few years. Also, the family would like to thank all of friends for their support of his wife and son during this trying time, and also the pastor Charles Foushee for the caring he has shown to the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Kidney Foundation.
