Concord police announced Wednesday they have arrested two women on charges of killing an acquaintance during a robbery at the victim's house last year.

Police charged Honey Rachel Watson, 26, of Clintwood Drive, Concord, and Elizabeth Dawn Mullis, 31, of Prior Drive, Concord, in the death of Lee Bruner, 59, on Feb. 10, 2007.

Deputy Chief Guy Smith said he could not provide a lot of details on the case, because more arrests may be made.

Smith said police have been actively working the investigation since Bruner died.

Both women were persons of interest to police since early in the investigation, Smith said.

“I'm certainly happy we can bring some closure to the victim's family,” he said.

Bruner let the women into his house last year at 239 Lincoln St. S.W., Smith said. Sometime during the robbery, Bruner was struck in the head, and he died from the blunt force trauma.

Both women were charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police in San Jose, Calif., picked up Watson. Authorities are moving to have her extradited to North Carolina.

Mullis is in an N.C. prison in Montgomery County on unrelated charges that include breaking and entering, larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
