Member of Masonic Temple; devout Christian Friday, August 15, 2003

Donald H. Mullis graduated to the next level on Aug. 7, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital after a massive heart attack Aug, 3.

He was born Sept. 13, 1914, to Frank and Belle Wallace Mullis in Port Angeles, Wash. He grew up in Friday Harbor, Wash., and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in chemistry.

He had a career of 33 years in Alaska and Seattle in the fishing industry and was manager of Fishing Vessel Owners and Marine Ways in Seattle for 10 years.

After raising two daughters, he and his wife, June Van Slyke Mullis, loved to travel. In later years he enjoyed woodworking and jigsaw puzzles. He was a member of the Masonic Temple, Shrine, Scottish Rite and was president of the Tuxedo Club.

Because of his strong Christian faith he was looking forward to passing as a great adventure, a celebration, and reunion with family and friends, especially June, who preceded him in on Feb. 28, 1995.

Those celebrating his life, yet missing his strong presence on this side of the door, are his daughter and son-in-law, Risa and R.J. Hearn, of Minden; daughter, Ina Mullis, of Boston, Mass. and Friday Harbor, Wash.; granddaughter, Katie Mullis Lyon, of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Ina Gustin, of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Wally Mullis, of Friday Harbor, Wash.; sister, Flossie McRae, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; extended family and people special to him and his loved ones; Marianne Matthews and Houston Morrison.

No services were scheduled.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Mullis Senior Community Center, Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 951, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

Cremation was at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City. His ashes will reside next to his wife's at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Minden was in charge of arrangements.
