Hendersonville - Catherine Roper Mullis, of Hendersonville, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care's Elizabeth House, following a period of declining health.

She was born in Henderson County, a daughter of the late Ernest DiWitt Roper and Ella Shepherd Roper, and had been an area resident most of her life. She retired as a teller from First Union Bank and was a long time member of East Flat Rock United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers, James, Tommy, E.D., Jr., and Douglas Roper; as well as her much loved nephew, Tommy D. Sunny Chapman.

She is survived by her loving sister, Mildred Chapman, of the Bent Creek Community.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Tim Porter will officiate. Friends may visit with the family for one half hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Flat Rock United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 477, East Flat Rock, NC, 28726.
