Mrs. Mullis, 91 of Matthews, went home to be with the Lord in the arms of angels on January 5, 2006 at Carrington Place with her family at her side after several years of declining health.

She was born November 10, 1914 in Marshville, NC and was the daughter of the late Minnie Cochran Thompson and Ernest Clark Thompson, Sr.

Mrs. Mullis was a lifetime member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church where she met and married her now deceased husband of 68 years, Roy Taylor Mullis. She was a member of the Friendly Bible Class at the church and was a homemaker and seamstress having retired from Kenneth's Home Fashions.

Mrs. Mullis, Maw Maw as she was lovingly called by her family was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law. She will be missed by her family and friends.


Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Mount Harmony Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. H. W. Pigg and Reverend Neil Lickliter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00-12:00 on Saturday. At other times the family will be at the residence of Pat M. McAteer. Pallbearers for the service will be Bill Mullis, Gary Ritchie, Doug Henderson, Ray Thompson, Darrell Connell and Bruce Rowell.


Survivors include her children, Norman Mullis of Matthews and Lake Tillery, NC. and Pat Mullis McAteer of Matthews; sister, Betty Thompson Connell and husband Jimmy of Mint Hill; brother, Jerry Thompson and wife Shirley of Matthews; daughter-in-law Doris V. Mullis of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Shan Mullis of New York, NY, Vicki Albergotti of Charlotte, Michael Mullis of Charlotte, and Kendall McAteer and wife Tiffany of Indian Trail, NC; five great grandchildren, Taylor Mullis, Elizabeth Albergotti, Ryan Albergotti and Lauren Albergotti all of Charlotte and Aedan McAteer of Indian Trail, NC.

Mrs. Mullis was preceded in death by her husband Roy in 2000; a grandson, Chris McAteer; Son-In-Law, Kenneth McAteer; sisters Macie Doars, Catherine Garmon, Dorothy Ritchie, and Hazel Floyd; and brothers, Bruce Thompson, E.C. Thompson, Jr. and David Thommpson.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Harmony Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2817 Mt. Harmony Church Road, Matthews, NC 28105.The family would like to thank the staff of Carrington Place for their love and support and wonderful care they provided and also to Camille Trapp and Tiffany Young of Hospice of Charlotte.
